WinFS - Gone from Vista and now gone from futuer Windows...

"...we are not pursuing a separate delivery of WinFS, including the previously planned Beta 2 release. With most of our effort now working towards productizing mature aspects of the WinFS project into SQL and ADO.NET, we do not need to deliver a separate WinFS offering."

It was a product looking for a problem and the indexing that is shipping in vista made alot of the need obsolete. Good ridance

Indeed, other than instant search (which vista now provides without winfs) the average user would see no other benefit and would no doubt be stuck with a slower system and lots of bugs.

Actually there are plenty of features unrelated to indexing which would be provided by WinFS. Go read the published docs.

We aren't going to see WinFS???
That was the **ONLY** feature of Vista that I was looking for.
Putting the features into anything other than the file system itself just won't work - I'm not running funky utilities to do the job of my file system.
